The Maldives, The Cook Islands, Sri Lanka - these idyllic destinations are on many of our vacation wish lists because of their dreamy turquoise oceans and white soft sanded beaches. So one might think. But look a bit closer and you see a different picture: proper waste management does widely not exist in island nations.
With plastic pollution and waste levels ever-increasing as years go by, it’s getting harder to effectively manage and recycle it - and prevent it from entering our oceans. The effect is as obvious as alarming: many island nations are swimming in plastic pollution, especially in areas that are inundated with tourism.
In this LinkedIn Live event, our CEO Joel Tasche welcomes waste management experts Paolo Facco, Advisor - Circular Economy at adelphi, Afrah Ismail, Co-Founder at Zero Waste Maldives, and Jean-Baptiste Grassin, Managing Director at Nomad Plastic.
The panel discusses their latest research, their waste management projects on the ground in SEA island nations, and challenges and solutions to end marine pollution.
